What is Fertility?

Very simplistically the process of how pregnancy occurs is the following:

A woman’s body must release an egg (oocyte) from one of her two ovaries

A man’s sperm must reach the egg and fertilise the egg along the way

The fertilised egg (embryo) must go through one of the woman’s fallopian tubes toward the uterus

The embryo must then implant (attach) to the inside of the uterus

Fertility is a woman or man’s ability to conceive children. A couple’s ability to conceive a baby is dependent on both the woman and man’s fertility. When a couple is unable to get pregnant after generally at least one year of unprotected intercourse, they are considered to have infertility and their doctor will begin assessing the possible causes. Factors that may contribute to infertility include the couple’s age as well as lifestyle habits like smoking, alcohol, and drug use. There are also certain medications, cancer treatments, and medical conditions that can also affect fertility. Infertility has various potential causes. In women, hormonal imbalances, PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), difficulties with ovarian function, obstructed fallopian tubes, or uterine abnormalities like fibroids are common causes. In men, infertility can be the result of abnormal sperm parameters (low sperm count, low sperm concentration, and abnormal looking sperm), disrupted testicular or ejaculatory function, or a hormonal or genetic condition. As part of a holistic fertility treatment programme many doctors will recommend Fertility Supplements or Vitamins for Fertility which contain specific fertility vitamins and minerals like Inositol (Myo- and D-Chiro Inositol), Folate, Coenzyme Q10, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, L-Arginine, Magnesium, Selenium and Zinc to name a few. These minerals and vitamins all play a role in both the female and male reproductive system which includes the health of the woman’s eggs and the man’s sperm. Increasing fertility in some couples may require a complete overhaul of lifestyle habits including diet, weight loss and exercise to yield positive results. This is done in conjunction with prescribed fertility medication and over-the-counter Fertility Supplements.

What are Fertility Pills?

Fertility pills, also known as fertility medications, help regulate or stimulate ovulation in women who are experiencing infertility due to ovulation disorders. These prescribed medications work by causing the body to release hormones that trigger the release of an egg from the ovary. It’s important for women to consult with their Doctor / Healthcare Professional to determine the most appropriate fertility treatment for their particular situation.

Activ-FOLATE

Metabolically Active Folate

Stellar Activ-Folate contains the active form of Folate. Folate has an important role in female fertility, both before and after conception. For women who are struggling to conceive, Folate can help prevent early pregnancy defects that can lead to miscarriage. It is also recommended that women who have suffered from previous miscarriages increase the dose of Folate taken before pregnancy and into the first trimester.

Studies have shown that a higher intake of supplemental Folate was associated with higher live birth rates after assisted reproductive technology treatment.
