Zinc

When should I take Zinc?

Zinc is an essential dietary trace mineral whose primary function is the maintenance of general health. Your body cannot produce Zinc. While the body only needs small amounts, Zinc is necessary for almost 100 enzymes to carry out vital chemical reactions. Zinc is found in cells throughout the body. It plays an important role in the formation of DNA (the genetic material in all cells), the growth of cells, building proteins, healing damaged tissue, and supporting a healthy immune system by helping the immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses.  While a Zinc deficiency is not common, some of the causes of Zinc deficiency are Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBS), gastrointestinal surgery, chronic liver or kidney disease, and prolonged diarrhoea. Zinc is more efficiently absorbed when taken in smaller doses and in people who are deficient in the trace mineral.
