  • Preggy-Mama is Stellar-Mama’s baby sister in our prenatal supplement range. Preggy-Mama does not contain the Meg-3 Omega component of Stellar-Mama and has reduced amounts of Calcium, Magnesium and Vitamin D.
  • Folate vs Folic Acid? Folate is the naturally-occurring form of vitamin B9 (a metabolically active form) whereas folic acid is a synthetic form of vitamin B9 (an inactive synthetic form). The body does not convert folic acid into active vitamin B9 very well, so un-metabolized folic acid may build up in the bloodstream which can have negative health effects. Thus, Folate and Folic Acid are technically not the same thing.
  • Folate is essential during pregnancy as it helps prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida and cleft palate. The highest risk for neural tube defects occurs between the 21st and 28th day after conception when the embryonic neural tube closes. This is in the first month of pregnancy, often before a woman even knows that she is pregnant. Thus, one should start supplementing with folate at least 2 to 3 months prior to falling pregnant as per the World Health Organisation’s Guidelines.
